How to Earn Money from Home with CPA Affiliate Programs

Since I became an internet marketer, I’ve tried many strategies to earn a reasonable amount of money. I started out with Adsense but it did not pay well. I tried several other tricks and then I discovered CPA marketing. As I came to discover, CPA marketing was (and still is) one of the best means of earning money with or without a site. With this guide, I will illustrate how you can earn from home with CPA affiliate programs.

What is CPA?

CPA is an acronym for cost per action. Therefore, with CPA, you get paid each time an internet user clicks on your affiliate link and performs a complete action. This action could be about anything, but it’s usually one of these:

  • Filling out a form
  • Getting a quote or estimate
  • Subscribing to a service
  • Purchasing something

Why CPA?

There are three major reasons as to why I prefer CPA affiliate programs over most other forms of affiliate marketing.

  1. You Don’t Need to Get People to Purchase

Normally, affiliate marketers earn by generating purchases. On the other hand, with CPA, you get commissions just by making your prospects visit the advertiser’s site and complete simple actions like filling out a form.

  1. You Don’t Need a Site

With CPA, you don’t need a website. You could choose to market the merchant’s products by sending traffic from social media networks like Facebook and MySpace directly to the merchant’s site.

  • It Pays Higher

Whatever way you use to get traffic and leads, you will want to make money. Among the popular promotional models, CPA has the advantage as it offers you the highest revenues. You could earn as much as one to three bucks for simple actions and as much as $130 for long-term actions like sales.

Now let’s explore the steps you need to follow to become a good CPA affiliate marketer.

  1. Find Offers

First, you need to look for offers that align with your website’s existing traffic. However, there are numerous CPA networks online – how can you find the ideal one for your site?

That’s easy – use OfferVault.com and oDigger. These are like the search engine of CPA affiliate programs. They give you an easy way of finding offers from decent CPA networks. Then again, they allow you to search based on price, keyword, category, and even network.

Let’s assume, for instance, that you run a medical site. Head to oDigger and type “medicine” or “hospitals” into the search field.  In the course of your search, you’ll come across terms like the following:

  • Display – consists of banner ads and text links
  • Lead – the most popular action in CPA marketing. Usually involves submitting the names, emails, and addresses of prospective customers
  • Email/zip code submit – the simplest CPA offer. Perfect for untargeted traffic. Users submit their zip codes and email addresses only
  • Incent – short form for incentivized. Means you can offer users free products and downloads as incentives
  • Pay per call – means you’re paid when a users makes a call after following your affiliate link
  • Download/install – you’re paid when people download or install some software
  • Publisher – one who promotes an offer (in this case, you)
  • US/CA/FR – offer is only valid in that nation
  • AM – the affiliate manager; the person you consult in your CPA affiliate network
  • Sale/Rev share – you get a commission for each sale

When you spot one that looks good, click on its listing. Then, read the details of the offer. The listing usually provides you with basic information such as the type of traffic allowed.

If you like the listing, click on the Landing Page Preview button. This shows you the page that your audience will see when they follow your affiliate link.

If it looks good, hit the “landing page preview” button. This will show you the page that users will see when they click on your link.

What to Look For In a Landing Page

First, you need to ensure that the landing page looks neat and professional. In case it looks shady, your traffic won’t like it, and they won’t complete actions. You also need to ensure that the page has just a few fields, as many fields lower the conversion rate. On the other hand, more fields attract higher commissions.

What to Do If You Don’t Find an Offer

Sometimes, you may not find offers that suit your site’s topic; this depends on your niche. In case this happens, consider looking for CPA offers that are appealing to your audience’s demographics. For instance, I used to run a website in the “dating” niche. I wrote dating in quotes because its target audience was 7th graders looking for ways of talking to Tracy that sits in the corner. Not the regular dating that’s easy to monetize.

Although I tried 30 different ad placements and themes, I faced lots of difficulty trying to make use of Adsense. When I investigated the ads that Adsense was generating, I noticed that they weren’t related to dating; their targeting was based on demographics. So, I decided to switch to email/zip code submit offer. People would submit their emails and zip codes for a chance to win an Xbox. With this strategy, I was earning much more than I ever made with Adsense.

  1. Join a CPA Affiliate Network

If the offer seems to work for you, then join the network that runs it. You can do this by clicking on the Join CPA Network link on the offer page. You’ll be taken through an application process, where you’ll be asked to submit your phone address, which they will call. Many affiliate marketers find this a stumbling block, as they are accustomed to making cash without having to talk to someone.

How to Get Your Application Accepted By CPA Networks

Keep in mind that CPA affiliate networks aren’t trying to complicate things; they just want ensure that you’re a legitimate person who will send them real traffic. Here are a few tips to help increase the chances of your application getting accepted:

  • Call them immediately after applying – this shows them you’re a real person who is committed
  • Be honest regarding your internet marketing experience

  1. Design your website around CPA

Consider integrating CPA into your site. In other words, make it look legit by removing inappropriate items like ugly banners. It would be better to integrate your affiliate links into your site’s design rather than placing them on banners. This makes your advertising not to appear too obvious.
